Job Opportunity: Wound Care Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with wound care experience to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The role involves treating acute, chronic, surgical, and atypical wounds, with knowledge in negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). Support from a wound care technician is provided.


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Work Setting

  • Medical-surgical and surgical units
  • Post-operative care
  • ICU/IMCU
  • Emergency Department (ED)
  • Occasionally Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Patient Ratio

  • 6 to 7 patients per day (depending on acuity)

Systems & Tools

  • Epic electronic health record system (required)
  • SBAR communication method

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • No weekends required
  • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Holiday work expected if major holidays fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
  • Return to Office (RTO) max 7 days

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year wound care experience (higher years of experience not indicated)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • WCC/WOCN preferred
  • Skills:
    • Experience with wound care including ostomy/fistula care (a plus)
    • Knowledge of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT)
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse license valid in Georgia

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not explicitly required

Compliance & Screening

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling
  • Clinical screening to determine fit before final approval

Orientation

  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 weeks = 12 hours)

Required Documents & Health Screenings

  • Background check (within 30 days of start)
  • Education verification (degree related to nursing)
  • State RN license verification (Georgia)
  • Annual Nursys verification
  • Physical exam within 12 months
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • TB questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (seasonal)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Skills checklist within 12 months
  • Work history verification
  • References: 2 clinical references required

Competency Exams (Aya Requirements)

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Color blind testing
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable)
  • General competency exam for nursing

Dress Code

  • Scrub colors: Black, Gray, or Navy Blue

Additional Notes

  • The hospital uses Epic for charting and has a dedicated wound care office
  • The wound care nurse will have support from a wound care technician for patient turns
  • Floating may be required within the facility and scope of practice
