Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position: Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room (ER)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years in ER nursing
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May need to float within scope to like units
  • Block scheduling: Open to accommodation
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule)
  • Pending license: Not accepted
  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract Limit: Maximum 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years ER nursing experience (highest requirement)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Military only
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Military only
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Military only
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
    • NIH Stroke Certification – Must be updated annually
  • Competencies:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Must be completed via Relias and renewed annually
    • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Required for awareness; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with 80% or higher
  • Background Checks:
    • Must have a background check within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
    • Convictions within the last year or open/active cases are disqualifying
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (declinations no longer accepted for new candidates)
    • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start
    • Flu vaccine required year-round; medical or religious exemptions require facility approval and documentation
  • Other Requirements:
    • Photo for badge (professional passport-style photo)
    • Completion of facility-specific forms and acknowledgments prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, emergency contact, job description review/signature)
    • COVID-19 vaccination is not required but documentation is accepted if available

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Weekend shifts required every other weekend
  • Floating between like units may be required
  • Call off policy: 2 shifts per 13-week assignment allowed; after that, all contracted hours are guaranteed
