Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position in the Operating Room with a focus on Neuro and Ortho Spine service lines. The role may require participation in an Emergency Team during critical events, with expectations to stay on-site as assigned.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of neuro surgery and ortho spine nursing experience (this is the higher required experience level).
- Neuro call required.
- Unit does not accept first-time travelers (prior travel experience required).
- Experience in other service lines such as general surgery, ENT, and robotics is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Active Louisiana RN license or Compact License effective immediately upon submission.
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and sex offender search, all updated as required.
- Education verification of highest level completed (if applicable).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
- Required certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics; confirm with program management if unclear.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete skills checklist annually.
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years of employment history and explanations for any gaps.
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.
- Compliance with immunization and health screening requirements including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- May be assigned to Emergency Team during events and required to stay on-site as directed by unit manager.
Important Notes
- Candidates without the required neuro surgery and ortho spine experience or prior travel experience will not be considered.
- This is a backfill position starting ASAP for approximately 12 weeks.
- Candidates should be comfortable with emergency event assignments and potential extended on-site stays.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong neuro and ortho spine backgrounds who have prior travel contract experience and are ready for a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
