Travel Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Assignment in a Stepdown unit (HVTI-Stepdown).
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm), rotating D/N shifts. Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate testing required during orientation; passing scores required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty (Stepdown nursing) prior to travel.
  • 18 months of recent Stepdown experience required; travel experience in Stepdown counts.
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.

Orientation & Testing

  • ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate pass/fail testing during orientation.
  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if history of positive TB.
  • Immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, and Hepatitis B.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually.

Background & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required on assignment.
  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search and education verification.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months, updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Facility fingerprinting also required.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application including 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar specialty.
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams.

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and holiday work.
  • Modules and onboarding must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months between Cleveland Clinic assignments may need to repeat orientation and modules.
  • Pass/fail testing and competency exams are not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with strong clinical skills, current Ohio or compact nursing licensure, and required certifications ready to work a 13-week travel contract in a high-acuity hospital setting.
