Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Columbus, Ohio
Position Details

- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other/third weekend coverage required
- Floating: Floating within the hospital system required
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 22 (16 rooms)
- Average Daily Census: 20
- Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
- Common Diagnoses: Burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery (flaps, grafts, leech therapy), urology, gynecology, ENT, oral/maxillofacial surgeries
- Special Procedures: Burn dressings, flap checks, leech therapy
- Systems Used: EPIC (documentation), Pyxis (medication)
- Support Services Available: IV/pharmacy, respiratory, physical therapy, social work, transport, rapid response
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent PCU nursing experience with a similar patient population
- Preferred Experience: Previous charge RN experience and teaching hospital experience preferred
Prior Travel Experience

Required Background and Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check (including FBI and BCI fingerprinting) required prior to start
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting with specific code required within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
Required Health Documents and Immunizations
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declined
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
Additional Facility Requirements
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized PCU setting with a diverse adult and geriatric patient population requiring advanced nursing skills and certifications. Candidates should be prepared for night shifts and floating within the hospital system.
