Job Opportunity: Medical Physicist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Salem, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a full-service radiation oncology department with two Varian linacs.
  • Patient volume: approximately 65 patients per day, mostly outpatient (95%).
  • Utilize Varian Aria and Eclipse EMR systems.
  • Responsibilities include performing all types of chart checks, daily and monthly QA on Varian TruBeam linacs.
  • Hospital-based Radiation Oncology clinic setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Medical Physicist (Therapeutic Medical Physics)
  • Board Certification: ABR board certified in therapeutic medical physics (required)
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in the specialty
  • License: No state license required for physicists in Oregon
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not specified / not required

Skills & Competencies

  • Highly proficient with Varian TruBeam linacs and the ARIA system
  • Ability to perform daily and monthly quality assurance on radiation therapy machines
  • Experience with chart checks and radiation oncology protocols

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (passport accepted if no driver’s license)
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start (7-year search)
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
  • Physical exam within one year of start (can start with physical pending)
  • Drug testing (10-panel within 90 days of start)
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity verification or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (booster or declination if low titer)
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (year-round requirement)
  • Fit mask testing onsite within first week of start (if applicable)

Additional Information

  • Travel and lodging expenses covered by the client
  • Badge photo required at least 8 days prior to start
  • Completion of required HealthStream modules before start date
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one supervisory reference within last 12 months

This position is ideal for a Medical Physicist with strong experience in therapeutic medical physics, particularly with Varian equipment, seeking a travel contract in a hospital-based radiation oncology setting.
