Job Opportunity: VAD Coordinator (Registered Nurse)
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Manage patient and caregiver education related to Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD)
- Provide routine and urgent telehealth care and emergency patient management via phone
- Conduct clinic visits and manage VAD equipment, including downloads and alarm troubleshooting
- Serve as the expert resource for VAD equipment and alarms in the OR and procedural settings
- Educate staff, patients, and caregivers on VAD devices
- Triage issues from call center, emergency line, and patient portal independently
- Approximately 80% outpatient work with some procedure area involvement
- Devices primarily include HeartMate 3, HeartMate 2, and BrioVAD
- Current patient load approximately 210
Schedule
- Shift options: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
- Typical weekly hours: 36-40 hours (e.g., 4x 10-hour shifts or a combination of 10- and 8-hour shifts)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Cardiology experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Vascular Access experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire if history of positive test
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required year-round with no exemptions permitted
- Professional references: 2 recent verified from managers/supervisors (charge RN references not accepted)
- Facility-specific orientation and compliance documents must be completed and signed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Candidates accepted for first-time travel assignments
- Must be able to manage a high volume of outpatient VAD patients and provide expert device support
- Orientation includes pass/fail EKG and medication competency testing for applicable units
