Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience. The role involves caring for cardiac patients with a secondary focus on respiratory issues. This is a travel/contract position with night shifts and weekend/holiday rotations.


Schedule

  • 3x12 hour shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Night shift
  • Weekend rotation and holidays as needed
  • Staff scheduled in 6-week blocks via self-assisted scheduling

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in Cardiac PCU
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Ratios

  • 1:4 ratio with drips/BiPAP
  • Otherwise, 1:5 ratio

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam required
  • EPIC system proficiency required

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Telemetry monitoring on unit
  • Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
  • Peripheral and PICC line care and management
  • Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Chest tube management (Emerson, Pleur-evac)
  • External CPAP/BiPAP use
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams preferred

Patient Population Focus

  • Cardiac patients including congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, syncope, pacemaker placement
  • Secondary focus on respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, BiPAP

Work Environment

  • 30-private bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care unit
  • 24/7 care with centralized cardiac monitoring
  • Nurse assistants available 24/7
  • RN secretary available 7 AM - 11 PM

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
  • Primary source license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Social Security Card
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher)
  • Transcript/Diploma as applicable
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Fit mask test (N95) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
  • Physical exam (if applicable)

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of Health History Form prior to clearance
  • Pass/Fail EPIC test (2 attempts allowed)
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing for EKG and medication exams
  • Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
  • References: 2 supervisory references required for clinical positions (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
  • Employment verification for last 5 years through third-party vendor
  • Facility-specific policies including floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgement

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required; first-time travelers are accepted
