Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Surgical Services
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM
- Call Requirements: 1 weekend on-call shift every 4 weeks (7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Request Time Off (RTO): Max 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no holiday RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday; no RTO on weekends
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; all clinicians must float within scope as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in a Level I or Level II trauma center or large teaching hospital
- Experience across multiple surgical services including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Thoracic, Trauma, Oral-Maxillofacial, ENT, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, Plastics, Urology, Colo-Rectal, Pediatric and Adult surgeries
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through one of the following:
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Licensing: Must be certified as a Surgical Technologist in the State of Illinois (license not required)
- Location: Must live within 75 miles of the facility
- Pending License: Not accepted
Facility Highlights

- Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year, required annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required by facility policies

- Locals preferred but travel candidates accepted
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Mandatory floating to other units within scope of practice
- No block scheduling
