Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Position in a sensitive unit requiring review of all unit/job details before applying.
- Must have 4 years of Operating Room experience prior to travel.
- Required experience includes Neurology, Transplant, General Surgery, GYN, and Orthopedics.
- Service lines include Bariatrics, Urology, Neurology, ENT, Oral, Plastics, Transplant, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, GYN, and Orthopedics.
- Weekend schedule: Every other weekend.
- Call: Variable, to be discussed during interview.
- Floating: Within facility/scope of practice and to outpatient as needed.
- First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required).
- No holiday time off approved during blackout dates (11/23-11/29, 12/21-1/3).
- Maximum request time off (RTO) allowed: 7 days.
- Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays may push start date by 2 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of Operating Room experience with required specialty areas (Neurology, Transplant, General Surgery, GYN, Orthopedics).
- License: Must hold a valid license appropriate for Surgical Tech in Georgia.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on specialty area.
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) may be required based on unit specifics; verify with clinical lead.
- Competencies:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required.
- Color Blind Testing required.
- Other competency exams may be required depending on specialty and unit.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, including education verification.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (additional testing for privileging specialties).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
- Tdap recommended but not required.
- Annual updates required for some documents (e.g., background check, TB questionnaire, Nursys verification).
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.
- Work history verification required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process).
- Two clinical references required.
Additional Notes
- Clinical screening will be conducted to determine fit before final approval.
- Locals accepted at the same rate.
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length.
- Dress and professional appearance policies must be reviewed and followed.
- Code of conduct must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Techs with a strong background in multiple surgical specialties and who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-specialty operating room environment.
