Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Operating Room
- Shift: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (06:45 AM – 03:15 PM)
- Rooms: 23 operating rooms
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend per month
- On-Call: Yes, approximately 1 per week (less frequent recently)
- Floating: Rarely, only within skill set
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 3 years in Operating Room nursing
- First-Timers: Not accepted (prior OR experience required)
- Trauma Level: Level I trauma experience required
- General OR and Trauma Experience: Required
- Cerner Charting Experience: Preferred
Case Experience Required:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Emergency Management: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
Equipment/Instrumentation Experience:
- Electrosurgical units
- Fiber optic light sources/cords
- Hana tables
Professional Knowledge and Skills:
- Administration of blood products
- Infection control
- Radiation safety
- Specimen handling and labeling
- Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure
- Urinary bladder catheterization
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Active Illinois RN license or in application process required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – required
- CNOR and CST – preferred
- ACLS, PALS – may be required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Must comply with all requested background checks and verifications including:
- Background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification
- State-specific searches (Illinois)
- Physical exam within one year of start, including labs
- Fit mask testing required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- References: 2 professional references required
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo and code of conduct acknowledgment required
