Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Lincoln, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in Maine or compact license accepted
• BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
• Current, unexpired immunizations including:

  • Varicella (2 doses or titer)
  • Hepatitis B (3 doses or titer or declination accepted)
  • MMR (2 doses or titer)
  • Tdap
  • PPD (2-step or titer within past 12 months)
  • Flu shot required during flu season
• BSN preferred
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of nursing assessment and skills for all age groups

Job Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
• Complete discharge assessments and plans, ensuring patient/family understanding
• Develop and implement patient care plans based on needs and physician orders
• Administer medications correctly, utilizing the five rights and evaluating patient response
• Communicate patient care activities and status updates to healthcare team members
• Document patient care activities according to hospital policies and standards
• Assist with patient charges and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding
• Maintain a safe physical environment for patients and staff
• Participate in hospital-wide and department-specific quality improvement initiatives
• Engage in emergency/disaster preparedness planning, drills, and response as needed
• Provide patient and family education as indicated
• Perform follow-up calls to patients

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, reaching, balance
• Lifting and pushing patients in wheelchairs and stretchers; lifting up to 30 lbs
• Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and toxic chemicals

• Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts within a 12-week period
