Description

Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1900-0730), every other weekend, float as needed


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (specialty)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric specialties, NICU, Labor and Delivery)

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Epic experience required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (must score 80%, required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath/EPEndo/GI units; not required for NICU or Psych/Behavioral Health)

License Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Connecticut
  • Primary source verification required within 30 days of start

Background Checks and Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (official transcripts required if third-party verification unavailable)
  • Sex offender search
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation (for internationally educated RNs only)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • TB questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred

  • Stroke Education Module (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC Testing (required for RNs with Epic experience who do not want to complete training onsite)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption process

Employment History and Documentation

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure (if applicable to certain units)

  • Floating as needed within the department
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
