Job Details
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Neuro ICU
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Special Requirements: Neuro ICU experience required
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut (pending license accepted)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Verification of highest level of education
- Sex offender search
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024; minimum 80% score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU units
- Other unit-specific competency exams as applicable
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor and delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred

- Stroke Education Module and Attestation (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Psych/Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
- Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption form if applicable
Work History and Employment Verification
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required (attestations not accepted)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain units (not applicable for Neuro ICU)
Additional Notes
- Floating within scope is required to meet facility needs
- Weekend work every other weekend is mandatory
- Pending license accepted with timely application and proof
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Neuro ICU setting at a Level I Trauma Center with a supportive team and guaranteed hours. Candidates must meet all certification, licensure, health, and compliance requirements prior to start.
