Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Speech Pathologist Assistant for a full-time contract assignment in an acute care and adult outpatient setting. The position follows a 5x8 day schedule (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM) with alternating weekend coverage (every other weekend, 9 AM to 12 PM Sat/Sun). This role offers a supportive team environment in a community hospital setting.

  • Patient Diagnoses: Stroke, Infectious Respiratory Disease, Other
  • Patient Ratio Experience Required: 1:15
  • Unit Systems: Pyxis (Medication), Meditech Expanse (Documentation), Tiger Text
  • Provider Support: Interpretation Services, Respiratory Services, Unit Secretary

Schedule & Work Details

  • Hours: 9 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Rotating Shifts: No
  • Call Required: Yes
  • Weekend Coverage: Every Other Weekend (Sat/Sun 9 AM to 12 PM)
  • Scheduling Type: Block

Required Qualifications

  • License/Certifications:

    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology)
    • MBSImP (Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile)
    • Massachusetts State License for Speech Pathology
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in specialty (Speech Pathology)
    • Previous charge experience required
    • Community hospital experience required
    • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Clinical Skills:

    • Adult dysphagia management including bedside swallow evaluation, international dysphagia diet, modifying diet orders, and use of thickening agents
    • Patient safety awareness including signs and symptoms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse
    • Billing and documentation skills including assessment, concurrent therapy documentation and treatment, discharge planning, evaluation, plan of care, point of service documentation, and reassessments
  • Prior Travel Experience:

    • Not explicitly required

  • Must be able to work in acute care and adult outpatient settings
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine/declination as applicable)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Tdap vaccine or signed declination
  • Drug screening (10 panel) within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
  • Background checks including Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance and other standard screenings
  • Professional references: 2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles
