Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
• Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) from 06:45 to 19:15

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience (higher years of experience confirmed)
• First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
• Must have weekend availability (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
• Experience with Cerner preferred
• Required case experience across multiple surgical specialties:

  • Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
  • General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (partial/total), Whipple
  • Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
  • Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
  • Transplant: Organ donation
  • Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
  • Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor Vehicle Accidents (multiple injuries)
• Emergency management skills: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
• Equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
• Professional knowledge: Administration of blood products, Infection control, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, Urinary bladder catheterization

Licensure & Certifications

• Must have an active Illinois RN license or be in the application process
• BLS required
• CNOR and CST preferred
• ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)

Additional Requirements

• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
• On-call required approximately 1 time per week (though frequency may be low)
• No block scheduling accommodations
• Floating within scope of practice is rare but possible
• All requested time off must be approved by manager
• Background checks, drug screening, physical exam, immunizations, and other health documents required per facility policy
• References and competency exams required for clinical candidates
