Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Days (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
- Call Requirements: Up to 4 weeknight call shifts per 4-week schedule
- Weekend Requirement: Up to 1 working weekend shift every 4 weeks
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including between like units/sister facilities
Facility Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- 21 Operating Room suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% Registered Nurses trained to scrub and circulate surgical procedures
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years strongly preferred
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
- Radiation Badge (provided by agency)
- Preferred Experience: Scrub experience strongly preferred
- Trauma Level: Experience in Level 1 trauma center environment preferred
Prior Travel Experience
- First-time travelers accepted
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks (called off hours can be broken down to add up to 1 shift)
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
Important Notes
- During hurricane season (June through November, peak in August and September), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. Travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of 2 clinical references
- Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Background checks including 7 years of work/living history, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
- Primary source verification of RN license (active, unencumbered)
- NURSYS verification required
- Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination/booster documentation
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- Flu vaccination required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
- Radiation badge required before starting (may take 5-7 days to process)
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
- All required certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
Additional Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam for OR required
- Annual skills checklist for applicable units
- Compliance with facility-specific safety and health protocols
