Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract
Location: Ponca City, Oklahoma
Shift: Days (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room (ER) in an acute care setting. This is a travel/contract position with every other weekend coverage required. The nurse will float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in ER nursing in an acute care setting.
- Prior travel experience not accepted (first-timers not accepted).
Certifications & Licenses (Must be current prior to start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Valid State RN License (pending licenses not accepted)
- Driver’s License and Utility Bill required with submission
Skills
- General Emergency Department care (combined adult/pediatric)
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Blood product administration
- Central line care/management
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs
- Stroke (CVA) care
- Isolation precautions
- Triage
Other Requirements
- No on-call required
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 75 miles from facility)
- No block scheduling accommodation
- No more than 5 days of Return to Office (RTO) allowed
Staffing & Environment
- Total staffed beds: 14
- Average daily census: 50
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 on nights and weekends
- Documentation system: MedHost
- Scrub color: Navy
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Patient Care Orientation Class (Skills) required for all RNs
- EPIC training required if no EPIC experience within 6 months
- Fit testing (N95 mask) completed onsite on first day
- ESI (Emergency Severity Index) Certification required prior to start (valid for 3 years)
- Vehicle information form must be completed prior to start
Background & Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Various federal and state background checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list
- Education verification with transcript/diploma required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no physical limitations
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (mandatory for ER)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history)
- Flu vaccine required annually (or approved exemption)
- COVID vaccination strongly preferred (declinations accepted with agency form)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (including marijuana)
Competency Exams & Training (Must be current and updated annually)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (100% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (90% passing score)
- Core Parts I, II, and III Competency Exams (80% passing score)
- Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (if applicable)
- Color Blind Testing (within 60 days prior to start)
- Other unit-specific competency exams as required
References & Work History
- Two former direct supervisor references required (one within 1 year, one within 3 years)
- Employment history covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- 10-year work history verification including international positions
Additional Notes
- Floating to sister facilities required
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- No local candidates accepted (must be outside 75-mile radius)
- No block scheduling accommodation
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with acute care background who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are ready for a travel contract in Oklahoma.
