Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)
• Shift: 4x12 or 3x12 Night shifts (1800-0630)
• Average Daily Census: 35 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Floating: May float within scope as needed by the department
• Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
• Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
• On-call: Not required
• Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
• First-timers: Not accepted (prior travel experience implied)
• License: Must have an active Illinois RN license or be in the application process with ETA to apply
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
• Special Skills & Experience Required:

  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Gastrointestinal Care: Colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal Care: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
  • Medication Administration: Heparin, insulin, PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)
  • Respiratory Care: CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, tracheostomy management
  • Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound vac
• Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Additional Requirements

• Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusion lists
• Education Verification: Initial degree verification required
• Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
• Physical Exam: Required within one year of start, must confirm good physical and mental health, free of communicable disease, and ability to perform job functions without restrictions
• Immunizations & Health Documentation:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer or signed declination
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Fingerprinting: Required for clinical candidates without an Illinois state license; must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start
• Photo for Badge: Required within one week of signing contract
• References: Two professional references required

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with strong clinical skills in telemetry, IV therapy, respiratory care, and emergency response, who are comfortable working night shifts in a Level II trauma acute care hospital setting.
