Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Midland, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Experience needed in General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Trauma, and ENT surgeries
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • Call required
  • Schedule is variable and flexible; no set days guaranteed
  • Block scheduling not approved
  • Shifts may be 3x12 hours or 4x10 hours with rotating days off and call (to be discussed during interview)

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Texas
  • Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for OR roles (recommend verifying with recruiter)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (no explicit mention)

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – required as applicable (e.g., L&D, NICU)

  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – preferred for Labor & Delivery
  • NIH Stroke Certification – required for clinical positions
  • Other certifications (CHEMO, ENPC) as applicable based on specific assignment

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 10-year Criminal Background Check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace and all locations lived/worked
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • State-specific background checks for Texas (DPS Criminal History, Employee Misconduct Registry, Employability Status Check) within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; additional onsite drug screen during orientation
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • N95 Fit Test within 1 year of start (PAPR not accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • TB test or chest x-ray (negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months)
    • Rubeola (Measles) – positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Mumps – positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Rubella – positive titer or 2 vaccines
    • Hepatitis B – positive titer or series (3 doses)
    • Varicella – positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history of chickenpox
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or agency declination (required October 1 - March 31)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Age-specific competency exam within 1 year of start
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Confidentiality and Security Agreement signed prior to start
  • Drug Screening and Blood Testing Consent Form signed prior to start
  • TB Questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Compliance checklist to be signed by candidate and agency
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Flexible traveler required due to variable scheduling and call demands
  • Pediatric experience preferred but not mandatory
  • No block scheduling available
