Job Opportunity: Operating Room Technician (OR Tech)

Location: Herrin, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• 0800-1830, 4 days a week
• Rotating day off throughout the week
• 1 weeknight and 2 weekend days per month for call requirements

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in transportation and positioning of patients
• Assemble and dismantle tables and instruments before and after procedures
• Prepare patient and room for surgical procedures
• Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures
• Complete skin preparation and draping
• Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, and passing instruments and sutures
• Maintain correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges
• Apply dressings and bandages as needed
• Identify, collect, and care for specimens
• Decontaminate instruments, supplies, and equipment according to policies
• Handle and store instruments, equipment, and supplies appropriately
• Aid in efficient turnover of the operating room for next cases

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or equivalent

Licenses and Certification

• For non-certified candidates: Graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA, or on-the-job training, military experience as technician or LPN, dental assistant, ophthalmologist technician, or medical assistant (with documented training)
• For certified candidates: Successful completion of Certified Surgical Technologist exam through NBSTSA or NCCT
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience

• Minimum 6 months technical experience or specialized training for non-certified or on-the-job/military trained candidates
