Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU)
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Patient Population: Adolescents to Geriatrics
- Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with mixed Medical-Surgical/Telemetry and Intermediate patients
- Patient Acuity: Includes neuro (small population), respiratory, cardiac, mixed medical, titrating cardiac drips, and telemetry
- Staffing Ratio: Approximately 1:4-5 (high staffing ratio)
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
- Orientation: Bi-weekly schedule; must be fully compliant to start on time or start delayed by 2 weeks
- Systems Used: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days; blackout during Spring Break (April 4-12)
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (1st time travelers accepted)
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Georgia
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)
- Competencies:
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required by agency)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, IMCU, ER, Cardiac step-down, ICU, PCU)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
- Background Checks & Verifications:
- Background check within 30 days of start, including education verification
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification annually
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if prior positive)
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or declination), Tdap (highly recommended)
- Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Other:
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Work history verification of most recent employer
- Two clinical references required
Additional Information
- No block scheduling; assignments may vary between PCU and MS/Tele units depending on patient acuity and staffing
- Floating within facility as needed
- Must comply with facility’s Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
