Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Neuro ICU experience for a travel/contract position. First-time travelers are accepted. The role involves working in a Level I Trauma Center with short-term acute care services.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years Neuro ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
• Neuro ICU experience is mandatory

Required Certifications

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

License Requirements

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut
• Primary source verification required within 30 days of start

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
• Sex offender search
• Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
• Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
• Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable

Competency and Testing Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU units (including Neuro ICU)
• EPIC testing if prior EPIC experience is noted (optional but highly encouraged)

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
  • Varicella
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly preferred for pediatric specialties but not required here
• 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• COVID vaccination series preferred

• Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
• Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
• AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
• New Employee Orientation Module
• 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
• ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
• eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
• Chaperone Policy Training
• EPIC Testing (optional but encouraged)
• Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption process if applicable

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend and float within their scope as needed.
• Pending licenses are accepted, but primary source verification must be completed within 30 days of start.
• First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
• RTO (Return to Office) restrictions apply for absences greater than 7 days.
