Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Call: No call required
- Float: Float to other units as needed
- Charge RN: Charge RN experience required; RNs will be required to work Charge RN shifts as needed
Unit Description
- 29-bed unit providing care for adults through geriatrics
- Patient populations include orthopedic (total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties) and medical-surgical patients
- Telemetry monitoring available
- Physical therapy gym on unit for patient rehab without leaving the unit
- Moderate to high volume surgical and medical patients, including 24-hour observation patients
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (explicitly stated)
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Charge RN experience required
- Testing: Pass/Fail EKG exam required for all RNs
- Other: Flexible with scheduling; zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Social Security Card
- Background Check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education Verification (Associate's degree in nursing or higher required)
- Transcript/Diploma as applicable
- Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Fingerprinting (NC SBI Fingerprint Results) if applicable (Home Health and Long-Term Care only)
- Employment Application/Resume with 7-year work history
- Work History Verification for last 5 years
- References: 2 supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
- Physical Exam (if applicable)
- Fit Mask Test (annual, specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and Health Documents:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB or Chest X-Ray (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months)
- TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required by 10/20)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
Additional Information
- Candidates must complete a mandatory questionnaire prior to offer
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgement
- Badge photo must meet strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for all RNs except Behavioral Health & Case Managers
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (must score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all RNs except Behavioral Health or Case Managers (pass/fail with remediation allowed)
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with at least 2 years in medical-surgical specialty and prior travel experience. The position requires night shifts with every other weekend coverage, no call, and the ability to float and work charge nurse shifts. Compliance with extensive background checks, certifications, immunizations, and testing is mandatory.
