Job Opportunity: Stepdown/PCU Registered Nurse (IMC)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1845-0715), option to accommodate 4x12s if preferred
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
  • Floating: Will float within scope as needed
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Pending License: Not accepted; must have active Illinois RN license
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty required (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • Required Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring on unit
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Cardiovascular Skills:
    • Post Cardiac Angiogram, Post MI
    • Pre/Post Cardiac Cath and Surgery
    • Sheath Removal, TR Band care
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Accessing ports, arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and PICC line care/management
    • Phlebotomy, peripheral line care, starting IVs
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (with and without titration)
    • PCA, procedural sedation administration
  • Neurological/Psychiatric Cases:
    • Craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery
    • Spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
  • Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
  • Respiratory Skills:
    • Care of ventilated patients
    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • Interpretation of ABGs
    • Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
  • Preferred Experience: Cerner charting, teaching hospital, Level I trauma experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • License: Active Illinois RN license required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
    • NIH certification required
    • ACLS preferred (AHA or RQI acceptable)

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and other state-specific searches
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccination or approved exemption
    • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
  • References: Two professional references required
  • Photo for Badge: Required within one week of signing contract
  • Parking: Permit required (no cost)
