Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Patient Ratios: 1:1
- On-Call Requirements: Yes
- 1 day every week
- One late shift per week
- One weekend every 5-6 weeks
- Floating: May be required to float between Downtown, Northeast, and Kershaw campuses based on census and staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of Operating Room experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers not accepted)
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Special Requirements: Radiation badge required (must be provided by agency)

Additional Requirements and Notes
- Background Checks: Annual background check including all locations lived/worked for past 7 years, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, employment and education verification
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts may be used as placeholders if verification is pending
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Flu vaccination required during flu season or medical/religious exemption
- Respirator medical clearance required annually
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and general competency exams required
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the unit to be worked
- Skills Checklist: Annual update required
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background required
- Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start is mandatory
- Radiation Badge: Must be obtained prior to starting patient care; may take 5-7 days to process
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified through third-party vendor
Scheduling and Work Conditions
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November), especially August and September
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior travel experience who hold the appropriate licensure and certifications, and who are comfortable with on-call and floating requirements.
