Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Overview

• Work in a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room.
• Surgical cases include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant.
• Variable shifts: days/evenings, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
• Call required Monday-Friday 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM; weekend and holiday coverage may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care during surgical procedures.
• Circulate primarily in Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
• Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
• Maintain patient records using EPIC electronic health record system.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience (including experience in Level 1 trauma centers).
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in ENT, Genitourinary (GU), Plastics, and Burns cases.

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Provider or Instructor accepted.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain units; check unit-specific requirements.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (except for certain excluded units).
• Unit-specific competency exams required.
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start).
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
• Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
• Annual review and acknowledgment of Ethics and Compliance policies.
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment annually.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Immunizations or titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire annually.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted).
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed).
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
