Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) (Nights)

Location: Saginaw, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care using the nursing process, including ongoing assessment, interventions, and evaluation of patient responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource, delegating and overseeing support staff. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team is essential to establish patient goals and outcomes. The RN cares for all types of patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU).

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician’s plan of care and evidence-based nursing practice (40%).
  • Provide direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, patient education, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties (30%).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and participate in updating/revising plans in collaboration with the care team (20%).
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, federal regulations, and hospital policies related to patient care (10%).

Patient Ratio

  • Target ratio: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience required.
  • Specialty Experience: Neuro PCU experience required.
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Active Michigan RN license (must be verifiable via LARA and/or Nursys)
    • American Heart Association BLS certification
    • American Heart Association ACLS certification
    • NIHSS Certification
  • References: Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.
  • Work History: Skills checklist current to within 1 year, pertinent to PCU specialty.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Recent travel work history is highly preferred but not explicitly required.

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius for this 13-week contract.
  • Scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application; requests after offer may result in rescinded offers.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a full-service hospital with advanced surgical care, a level II trauma center, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The facility provides specialty care including structural heart, stroke, spine, cancer, orthopedics, and women’s health services.
