Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA)
Location: Winona, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA)
- Department: Operating Room (OR)
- Shifts:
- 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (06:45 - 15:15)
- Late stay rotations and on-call rotations
- Block scheduling; flexibility required to fill gaps in permanent schedule
- Call Requirements:
- Weeknight on-call: 1-2 times per week, approximately 15.5 hours
- Weekend on-call: 1-2 times per month, 24-hour shifts (Saturday 06:45 to Sunday 06:45)
- Holiday on-call: May include day before, day of, and day after holidays, plus weekend before or after if holiday falls on Monday or Friday
- Call response time: 30 minutes
- Floating: May be asked to float into OR scrub role, PAA/PACU, or sterile processing to assist as needed
Case Mix & Facility
- Average cases per day: 5-25
- Common cases include:
- General surgery
- Orthopedic/sports medicine (specifically total joints)
- Plastics and cosmetics (preferred)
- Podiatry
- Cataracts/Eye procedures
- OB/GYN/Women’s Health (non-cancer related)
- Facility type: Rural community hospital, Trauma Level 3 & 4, and Critical Access Hospital
of OR suites: 7
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) via NBSTSA
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program (must be certified)
- NBSTSA-CST certification
- Minimum 3 years of surgical technologist (CST) experience
- Experience with general surgery and orthopedic total joint cases required
- Plastics experience preferred
- Experience in similar-sized facilities (Trauma Level 3 & 4 or Critical Access Hospitals)
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: 1-2 shifts with preceptor plus 1-2 call shifts with preceptor
- Scrub color/dress code provided by facility; scrubs cannot be worn outside the facility
- Must arrive presentable to the facility
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable transitioning between scrubbing and assisting roles
- Radius rule: 100 miles from facility
This position offers a guaranteed 36 hours per week with a 5-day, 8-hour shift schedule.
