Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide, coordinate, and direct home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
- Conduct home visits and periodic office meetings.
- Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day.
- Types of cases include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic.
- Use of HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) EMR required; proficiency in OASIS required for RNs.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (some positions may have 4x10 shifts Friday-Monday).
- On-call requirement: Approximately 1 weekend per month (varies by location).
- Visits include both patient homes and care facilities.
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
Required Qualifications
- License: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand (no pending licenses accepted).
- Experience: Minimum 1 full year of recent Adult Home Health or Hospice nursing experience (whichever is higher). First-time travelers are not accepted; recent specialty experience is required.
- Certifications: Current CPR and BLS certification (AHA, National CPR Foundation, or ARC accepted).
- Reliable transportation and current driver's license required.
- Must have agency-required liability insurance.
- Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase EMR and OASIS documentation within the last 6 months; retraining required if proficiency is outdated.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete various background checks including 7-year history, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable.
- Fingerprinting required for North Carolina and other states as applicable; must be completed prior to start.
- Education verification required.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, confirming good health and no communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella as per standard requirements.
- Drug screening (10-panel) required.
- COVID-19 vaccination series or declination required.
- Completion of compliance training, confidentiality agreements, HIPAA and privacy policies, and other facility-specific documents prior to start.
- Must provide proof of personal or auto insurance for home health placements.
Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
Work Environment
- Dress code: Scrubs.
- Patient visits primarily in home health settings, with some visits to care facilities.
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient not reimbursed).

- Weekend and on-call requirements vary by location and should be discussed during the interview.
- Possible opportunity for hire at the end of the contract.
