Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (MS/Tele and MS experience required)

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule & Work Details

• 36/36 schedule (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• Every other weekend required
• No call duties
• Required to float between units
• Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional shifts above commitment may be flexed as needed without penalty
• Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical nursing (MS/Tele and MS experience required)
• Accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience NOT required)
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Must live within 100 miles of the facility

Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee
• AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended—verify unit requirements
• Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC may be preferred depending on unit but not mandatory for this role

Orientation & Onboarding

• General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs on Sunday)
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
• Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgements required (e.g., dress code, smoking policy, flu vaccination policy)

Background & Health Requirements

• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for TN license holders
• Physical exam within 1 year of start required
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 14 days of start required
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season

Additional Competencies & Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
• Competency exam required
