Job Description
- Work on a busy surgical oncology floor with mixed acuity patients (PCU and Med Surg).
- Unit cares for adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including:
- Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma
- Hepatobiliary cancers: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine
- Colorectal cancers: colon, rectal
- Plastics: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma
- Procedures and unit details include:
- Chemotherapy administration
- Blood transfusions
- IV antibiotics
- Management of oncologic emergencies and cytokine release syndrome
- Insulin and heparin drips
- Strong focus on infection prevention and patient fall prevention
- Staffing ratios goal: 1:4 (can be 1:5)
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to change based on staffing needs
- Orientation: 1 week Monday-Friday day shift + 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
- Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Preferred Certifications:
- ONS Chemotherapy Certification
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
Prior Travel Experience

Required Background and Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declined during flu season)
- Annual background check not required by client but required by Aya Healthcare
- Drug test and fingerprinting must be current with no gaps over 90 days without renewal
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Completion of Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (one must be from a manager or formal leadership)
Scheduling and Orientation
- Rotating 12-hour shifts (day/night) with variable weekends
- No set/blocked scheduling
- Self-scheduling requests accepted but final schedule based on staffing needs
- Orientation includes classroom and on-unit preceptorship
Electronic Charting System
- EPIC
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with oncology or surgical experience who are comfortable with complex patient care and flexible scheduling in a fast-paced environment.
