Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (3G Neuro ICU RN)
- Shift: Mostly day shifts; up to 2 weeks of night shifts possible within a 6-week schedule
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity or other ICUs/IMC
- No call requirements; rotating shifts including afternoon/evening and night shifts as specified
- Facility requires annual flu vaccination
Required Qualifications
- License: Must have a valid District of Columbia RN license prior to start date (pending DC license accepted at submission with proof)
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA or ARC)
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (higher value from all sources)
- Skills Required:
- Conscious Sedation
- Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
- Ventilator management
- Skills Preferred:
- Level 1 trauma experience
- Pulmonary Artery Lines
- IV starts and phlebotomy
- Competency Exams:
- Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with minimum 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms
- Other Requirements:
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams as required
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and safety modules
Special Equipment Used
- EVD (External Ventricular Drain)
- Raumedic Bolt
- Artic Sun
- CVVH (Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration)
- Lytic catheter
- Flo-tracker and PA catheter (occasional use)
Health & Background Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Required immunizations or titers:
- Flu vaccine (mandatory)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
- Varicella documentation or titers
- Tdap vaccine preferred within 10 years
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Criminal background check within 90 days including multi-state and federal searches
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during assignment
Additional Notes
- Two positive supervisory references required, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
- Must be able to provide proof of all required documents and complete facility-specific modules before start date
- No prior travel experience required; new travelers are welcome
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs comfortable with critical care equipment and procedures, seeking a 13-week travel contract in Washington, DC.
