Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down)

Location: Boone, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position: IMCU Float Pool RN (Step Down Unit)
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 7pm-7am, up to 2 weekends per month, including holidays
• Float to MedSurg as patient volume requires
• Blocked scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed
• EMR system: EPIC (recent experience/proficiency required)
• Patient ratio: 5:1 with goal of 4:1
• Average daily census: 20-24 patients, 24 beds total
• Occasional pediatric patients; candidates must be comfortable caring for pediatric patients

Required Qualifications

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Step Down/IMCU)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must hold a North Carolina RN license or a Multistate RN license
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• Telemetry skills required
• Must comply with local rules: candidates residing less than 40 miles from the facility are not accepted
• Scrubs: all navy or all white

Additional Requirements

• Proof of government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) for address verification
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Physical exam updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccinations within 5 years
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccinations within 5 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
• Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana, within 90 days of start, updated annually
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency required
• Facility-specific orientation and documentation must be completed, including badge photo and self-study orientation

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
• Candidates must be comfortable with occasional pediatric patients despite the unit being primarily adult step down/IMCU
