Job Opportunity: SICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (SICU)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years (Manager prefers 4 years)
- First-time travelers accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Flexible, based on unit needs
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License: Not accepted
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Must be fully vaccinated (no exemptions accepted)
- License: Must have a valid District of Columbia RN license in hand to submit

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications as applicable: PALS, NRP, TNCC (refer to unit requirements)

- Parking: Employee responsible for parking costs; public transportation accessible (Metro Shaw/Howard University station and multiple bus routes)
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Valid DC RN license (primary source verification required, must not expire within 30 days of start)
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, nationwide, FACIS Level 3, sex offender registry, education verification
- Drug screening: 9-panel within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
- Physical exam: Initial and annual, must meet physical demands of position
- Fit mask testing within one year, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination form)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination form)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines, booster if needed)
- Flu vaccine required annually (medical/religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation)
- COVID-19 vaccine required (no exemptions accepted)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
- Completion of facility-specific forms and acknowledgements prior to start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not have pending licenses; must have DC license active and verified before start
- Prior travel experience is not required
- Schedule includes every other weekend and holiday coverage
- Floating within scope may be required to meet unit needs
This position is ideal for SICU RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are fully licensed in DC and meet the vaccination and certification requirements. The role offers a structured schedule with guaranteed hours and a supportive acute care teaching hospital environment.
