Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • License: Active Registered Nurse license for Connecticut required prior to start

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma requirements apply, including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
  • Sex offender search required

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months prior to start (85% passing score)
  • Color Blind Testing required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024 (80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and related units (effective 1/26/2026)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties (not required)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months prior to start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

Facility-Specific Training & Documentation

  • Multiple mandatory training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
    • Stroke Education (not required for pediatric specialties and NICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
    • eCart Training (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)

Additional Requirements

  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain units (not applicable for Telemetry)

This position is suitable for RNs with telemetry experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I Trauma Center environment with a 1:3 patient ratio and every other weekend commitment. First-time travelers are accepted.
