Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to like units or sister facilities
  • First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact RN license must be active and in hand prior to start
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification required
    • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Competencies: Telemetry competency required
  • Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience and community hospital experience

Facility & Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
  • Trauma Level: Level III Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 286
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: No cost
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Block schedule accommodation possible but not guaranteed
  • Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year work/living history
    • National and state criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every 30 days
  • Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
  • NURSYS license verification (active, unencumbered)
  • References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Facility-specific documents including job description acknowledgment and orientation modules completion
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal, shoulders up, business casual attire)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
  • TB testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; chest x-ray if prior positive
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Flu vaccination required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
  • Fit mask testing onsite during orientation (shaving required if facial hair)

Additional Notes

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Radiation badge required only for specific units (not applicable for this MS/Tele RN role)
  • Orientation modules must be completed prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Travelers must upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into the facility’s system

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing, who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license, and possess required certifications. Night shift availability and flexibility to float within similar units are essential.
