Travel/Contract ICU Registered Nurse (CICU RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Position Details
- Specialty: Critical Care Unit (CICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (12 shifts during contract)
- On-call: Possible low census on-call, but no additional call shifts required
- Floating: Yes, may float within scope to like units or sister facilities
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
Additional Requirements
- First-time travelers accepted
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
- Must be able to work every other weekend
- May be placed on call for low census but no mandatory additional call shifts
- Must be willing to float within scope to similar units or sister facilities
Orientation and Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 2-6 hours depending on unit) prior to start
- Upload COVID vaccination records if available; if not, must complete vaccination declination form
- Flu vaccination required during flu season or medical/religious exemption accepted
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, cleared to work without restrictions
- Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Background checks including 7 years of work/living history, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required
- Proof of 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit to be worked on
- Employment application/resume with no unaccounted gaps and full PTO/contract history
Work Environment and Other Notes
- Charting system: Epic
- Parking: Free parking available with facility-issued pass
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; travelers should consider this before accepting assignment
Health and Safety Requirements
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or appropriate follow-up for positive history
- Annual TB questionnaire completion required
- Physical assessment and lab panels required for sterile processing roles (not applicable here)
Scheduling and Hours
- Guaranteed hours with allowance for facility to call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
