Job Opportunity: Nuclear Medicine Tech (PET Tech)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position involves working at a cancer center serving adult and geriatric patients.
- Responsible for patient assessment related to Nuclear Medicine (NM) and PET procedures.
- Promote radiation safety and demonstrate safe and effective patient care.
- Prepare radiopharmaceuticals and perform scanning procedures for both in-patients and out-patients.
- Work under the direct supervision of a Board-Certified Radiologist.
- New service line with an estimated 3-4 PET scans per day.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, no on-call required.
- Documentation using EPIC, communication via SBAR, and support for providers including pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response teams.
- Scrubs required (any color, no patterns or logos).
- First-time travelers are welcome.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in Illinois
- Nuclear Medicine Technologist with a minimum of 3 years of experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of a Nuclear Medicine program
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ARRT certification
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Experience with HIDA Scan
- Experience in starting and maintaining Peripheral IV
- Experience in storing, handling, and disposal of radioactive materials
Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist)
- ARRT or NMTCB certification
- State License (Illinois)
- Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine program
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background checks including Social Security Trace, Education Verification, and others as per facility policy.
- Annual competencies and safety manual acknowledgements.
- Health documents including:
- Physical exam within last 12 months
- Fit mask training and respirator fit testing (with accommodation process if needed)
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- COVID vaccination or approved exemption
Schedule & Work Environment
- Monday through Friday, no weekends or call.
- Work involves collaboration with multiple departments including pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response teams.
Prior Travel Experience
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are welcome.
This position is ideal for Nuclear Medicine Technologists with PET experience looking for a travel contract in a hospital cancer center setting with a stable weekday schedule and no call.
