Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with targeted patient ratios of 1:4 (can be up to 1:5-6)
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hours per week (OT paid after 48 hours)
- Floating required at employer's discretion across multiple campuses within 15 miles
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or contract with notice
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with stable chronic ventilators
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Ohio RN license (primary source verification required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) but not mandatory for PCU
Additional Requirements
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 respirators before working on certain units unless PAPR is provided
- Must complete medical questionnaire for respiratory protection and provide medical clearance
- Must submit to background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Drug screening required within 12 months prior to start (including marijuana panel)
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Immunization or immunity documentation required for:
- TB (negative test or chest x-ray and annual questionnaire if past positive)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or vaccination preferred)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, immune titer, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam within 2 years prior to start
- Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year or within 72 hours of contract signing (with remediation attempts if needed)
Work Environment & Other Notes
- Floating assignments may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
- Employer may cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census
- References: 2 professional references required within 2 years, including 1 manager/supervisor/charge nurse
- Current resume/application required
- Skills checklist required within 1 year prior to documentation due date and updated annually
Summary
This is a travel/contract RN position in Ohio’s PCU requiring at least 1.5 years of nursing experience, EPIC proficiency, ventilator experience, and multiple certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory. The role involves floating between campuses and requires weekend/holiday availability. Comprehensive background checks, immunizations, and competency exams are mandatory.
