Description

Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) - AM Shift (7p-7a)

Location: Lincoln, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Maine or compact license accepted
  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
  • Current, unexpired immunizations including:
    • Varicella (2 doses or titer)
    • Hepatitis B (3 doses or titer or declination accepted)
    • MMR (2 doses or titer)
    • Tdap
    • PPD (2-step or titer within past 12 months)
    • Flu shot required during flu season
  • BSN preferred
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in nursing assessment and care for all age groups

Experience

  • Specialty: Nursing (Emergency Department)
  • Required years of experience: 1 year (implied by job level and responsibilities)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
  • Complete discharge assessments and plans, ensuring patient/family understanding
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans based on patient needs and physician orders
  • Administer medications correctly, utilizing the five rights and evaluating patient responses
  • Communicate patient care activities and status updates to healthcare team members
  • Document patient care activities according to hospital policies and standards
  • Assist with patient charges and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding
  • Maintain a safe physical environment and ensure availability and safety of supplies and equipment
  • Participate in hospital-wide and department-specific quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning, drills, and response as needed
  • Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs, and pushing patients in wheelchairs/stretchers
  • Maintain visual and hearing acuity sufficient for patient assessment
  • Work safely around infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, and cleaning chemicals

Work Environment

  • Requires physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, crouching, bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials possible

Additional Information

  • Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts within 12 weeks
  • Onboarding includes reporting to Human Resources on day 1
