Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - PICU
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days; no holiday RTO; no RTO day before or after a holiday; no RTO on weekends
- Floating: Mandatory float within scope to meet facility needs
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients, including neonates and infants
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
- Color blind testing (required for starts on/after 1/16/24)
- Competency exam (required for starts on/after 4/14/24)
- NIH Stroke Certification required for RNs in critical care specialties, including PICU (must be updated annually)
Additional Notes
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
- Must comply with mandatory floating policy
- Locals preferred but travel candidates accepted
This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center with a structured schedule and comprehensive credentialing requirements.
