Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Staffing Ratio: Night shift ratio varies between 1:3 or 1:4
  • Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Stepdown, Intermediate Care, Surgical ICU Stepdown, or Direct Observation Unit (DOU)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Facility & Unit Highlights

  • Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
  • 820 staffed beds
  • Unit: 6 East Transplant, a 22-bed intermediate PCU/medical-surgical unit
  • Patient Population: Pre- and post-operative transplant (liver, kidney, kidney/pancreas), nephrology, and urology patients
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Guaranteed hours with allowance for 1 shift call-off per 2 weeks
  • Open to block scheduling with manager approval
  • Local radius: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test required within 90 days prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start required
  • Vaccinations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations as required
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, and others within 1 year of start
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
  • Orientation: Completion of required modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Radiation Badge: Required only for specific roles (not applicable for PCU RN)

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit requirement for prior travel experience

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of recent experience, holding a valid South Carolina or Compact RN license, and current ACLS and BLS certifications. The role involves working in a specialized transplant PCU unit with a diverse patient population and requires flexibility for weekend and holiday shifts.
