Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: PACU RN with a strong orthopedic background
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, no weekends; flexible schedule with more shifts later in the day
  • Floating: Will float to other PACUs as needed
  • On-call: Yes, dependent on schedule and department needs
  • Guaranteed hours: Yes
  • Weekend requirement: Yes
  • Block schedule accommodation: No
  • Start Date: ASAP

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Strong orthopedics experience
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting

Facility & Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care
  • Level I Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 1,567
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking Cost: $125/month

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required, including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
  • Sex offender search required
  • Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or exemptions accepted for:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred

Competency & Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months of start (85% passing score)
  • Color blind testing required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024 (80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for PACU and other specified units
  • Various facility-specific training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:
    • Stroke Education
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
    • eCart Training Module
    • Chaperone Policy Training

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Pending license accepted
  • Strong orthopedic experience is a special requirement for this role

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with orthopedic skills seeking a travel contract in a Level I Trauma Center environment with a Monday-Friday schedule and no weekends.
