Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Massena, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with specialty in Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics for a small community hospital respiratory therapy department. The role involves managing patients with emphysema, asthma, and other respiratory diseases.

Key Responsibilities

• Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department respiratory therapy
• Extubation, nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning
• Pulmonary hygiene and sputum specimen collection
• Tracheostomy care and management
• Administration of respiratory medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, and others
• Use and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), T-piece, Trach collar, and ventilators (Servo I, LTV 1200)
• Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
• Non-invasive ventilation and high flow oxygen therapy
• Aerosol therapy and chest physiotherapy
• Stabilization of invasive ventilation in the emergency room prior to transfer
• Primarily 12-hour shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a) with one 8-hour shift on Fridays
• On-call required Friday nights from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New York
• Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year, minimum 1 year of experience
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Experience working with adult patients
• Extubation
• Nasal airway placement and suctioning
• Oral airway placement and oral/nasal suctioning
• Pulmonary hygiene
• Sputum specimen collection
• Tracheostomy care and management
• Administration of Albuterol

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Government Issued Photo ID
• 7-year criminal background check including all aliases and multiple registry checks
• Education verification for respiratory therapy degree
• Drug testing within 30 days of start

• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Required immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titers or vaccinations)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer, completed series, or declination)
  • Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
• Harassment prevention training (annual)
• Medication and competency exams as required by profession
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
• Facility-specific training and policy reviews prior to start

• Invasive ventilation patients are stabilized and transferred to a sister hospital
• Call required on Friday nights
