Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float position on an acuity adaptable unit with patients ranging from Medical-Surgical (MS) level of care to PCU/Stepdown/ICU level of care.
- Patient ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on acuity and patient type.
- Unit is a boarding unit where patients come from the ED and are boarded until discharge or transfer to inpatient units. Patients are generally stable; unstable patients are moved out.
- RN must have PCU experience as floating to inpatient PCU unit may be required.
- Team nursing model with RN/LPN collaboration and delegation. RN must be comfortable working with LPNs.
- Staffing can fluctuate; unit size can range from 4 beds up to 8-10 beds depending on need.
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Cerner experience required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Work Schedule & Hours
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
- Guaranteed hours vary between 36 to 48 hours depending on shift pattern
- Weekend shifts every other weekend required
- Holiday work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/living history verification
- SSN trace, county criminal, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcript/diploma required
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam
- Color blindness testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually thereafter
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
Notes
- This is not a first-time traveler position; prior travel experience is required.
- Team nursing environment with RN/LPN collaboration and delegation.
- Must be comfortable with floating between boarding unit and inpatient PCU unit.
- Cerner EHR experience is mandatory.
- Must be willing to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays.
