Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Tech

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Cath Lab Tech skilled in cardiac catheterization lab procedures within a nationally recognized cardiac cath lab. The position involves working 4x10 hour shifts (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM) with on-call responsibilities.


Schedule & On-Call Requirements

  • Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day
  • On-call: 7 on-call shifts and 5 late shifts every 6 weeks
  • One full weekend of call (Friday through Sunday) per 6-week period
  • One Saturday shift for elective cases per 6-week period
  • Must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes when called
  • Holiday: Must be available to work or take call one holiday per 13-week contract
  • No first-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience required
  • Local candidates not accepted

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ARRT(R) or CCI RCIS certification

Required Clinical Skills

  • Proficient in cardiac cath lab procedures including:
    • Left and right heart catheterization (LHC, RHC)
    • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), PTCA, stent placement
    • Atherectomy, temporary pacemaker, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip
  • Sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
  • Hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
  • Experience in diagnostic/interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions, equipment handling, and supply management

Unit Details

  • Adult patient population
  • 6 procedure rooms with daily census of 15–20 patients
  • Common diagnoses: coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure, atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closures
  • Advanced procedures: TAVR, left atrial appendage closures, Cardiomems, thrombectomy, mitral clips, renal denervation, research protocols
  • Equipment used: IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, laser, OCT, IVUS

Required Licenses

  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Virginia
  • ARRT (R) preferred with Virginia state license
  • CCI RCIS certification accepted without state license
  • Any active state license (in hand or pending) accepted
  • Virginia grants emergency authorization to travelers with a license while permanent VA license is processing

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist, with experience within the last year
  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Virginia
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • ARRT or CCI RCIS certification
  • Experience working with adult patients
  • Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures including diagnostic and interventional techniques
  • Proficient in sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
  • Knowledgeable in hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
  • Experience in diagnostic/interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Cath Lab Tech)
  • Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers not accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete background checks including 7-year history
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit testing within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • TB testing (negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Two clinical references required
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Photo for badge required
  • Must comply with facility-specific orientation and compliance paperwork

Notes

  • Charting system: Epic required
  • Must adhere to facility call-off and return-to-work policies
  • Must provide valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing
  • Must be able to meet radius requirements for travel distance to facility

This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, technologically advanced cardiac cath lab with a multidisciplinary team in a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital.
