Required Experience and Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Certifications (Check unit-specific requirements)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Not required for Pediatric Stepdown
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for NICU
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatric/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath Lab units)
Background and Verification Requirements
- 7-year Criminal Background Check (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education Verification including Foreign Equivalency for Internationally Educated RNs
- State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- Employment Application with 7-year work history, no gaps >90 days
- Work History Verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- One Supervisor Reference within past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray documentation
- Annual TB Questionnaire
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines (boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of vaccine series, or declination within 1 year
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician documented history (boosters if low titer)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination acceptable)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Medical/Religious Exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred
