Required Experience and Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Certifications (Check unit-specific requirements)

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Not required for Pediatric Stepdown
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for NICU
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
• NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatric/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs

Competency Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath Lab units)

Background and Verification Requirements

• 7-year Criminal Background Check (updated annually)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education Verification including Foreign Equivalency for Internationally Educated RNs
• State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
• Employment Application with 7-year work history, no gaps >90 days
• Work History Verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
• One Supervisor Reference within past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical Exam within 12 months of start
• Fit Mask Test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
• Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray documentation
• Annual TB Questionnaire
• Immunizations:

  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines (boosters if low titer)
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of vaccine series, or declination within 1 year
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician documented history (boosters if low titer)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (declination acceptable)
• 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
• Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Medical/Religious Exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
• COVID vaccination preferred
