Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (BMT/Oncology RN)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an Oncology Registered Nurse with Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) or Medical-Surgical (MS) experience and oncology exposure. No oncology certification required. First-time travelers are accepted.
Work Schedule
- Shifts: 3x12 or 4x12 hour day shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Will float within scope as needed
- Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
Patient Population & Facility
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet designated
- Total Staffed Beds: 562
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Bone Marrow Transplant experience within the last year
- Administration of chemotherapy including IV push, continuous infusion, and oral administration
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
- Accessing ports
- Administration of coagulation factors
Certifications & Skills
- Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
- Oncology certifications (OCN, ONS/ONCC) preferred but not required
- Required Chemotherapy Skills/Experience:
- Administration of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
- Required IV Therapy/Infusion Skills/Experience:
- Accessing ports and central lines (PICC, implanted lines)
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood products
- Central line blood draws and care
- Starting IVs
- ACLS and BLS certifications required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within one year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required prior to start
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Other Notes
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- On-call not required
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs
This position is ideal for an Oncology RN with BMT or MS experience looking for a travel contract in a large, Magnet-designated acute care hospital with a strong oncology program.
