Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses to join a team-based unit caring for neonates/infants and adults. The unit handles labor (vaginal), C-sections, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and D&C procedures.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
Patient Population
- Neonates/Infants and Adults
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate (Preferred)
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Ratio/Census: 1:1-2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- 16 Labor & Delivery beds with an average daily census of 15
- 6-bed Labor & Delivery Triage
- Unit Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color provided by facility
- Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
- 3 weekend shifts per contract
- Call requirements: 2 calls per 6 weeks for AM & PM shifts
- Must work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
Orientation & Compliance
- Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum 7 days
- Full compliance required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Number of Non-Billable Orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 weeks = 12 hours)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with neonate, infant, and adult patients
- Experience with C-sections, multiple births, and D&C procedures
- Current certifications: BLS and ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, and NRP
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Health & Background Requirements
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB history) within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- Background check required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required (degree related to nursing)
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Work history verification of most recent employer
- 2 clinical references required
Competency Exams (Aya Requirements)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Color blind testing
- General competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable)
Additional Notes
- Floating within facility as needed
- Must be willing to work scheduled weekends and holidays as outlined
- Must comply with facility dress and professional appearance policies
- Must review and sign facility code of conduct prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel assignments who are ready to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment caring for a diverse patient population.
